I tried out Cargo Cosmetics for the first time a couple of months back and have been a fan of their brand ever since, so when I received a surprise package in the mail a couple of weeks ago with their Summer 2017 collection, I was so ecstatic! I was particularly excited for the You Had Me At Aloha Eyeshadow Palette, so I’ll be sharing this palette first with you today and the rest of the goodies in a separate post.
The You Had Me At Aloha Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 for) is a limited edition 12-pan eyeshadow palette with a versatile mix of neutral and bright shades in matte and shimmer finishes, inspired by the Hawaiian Islands. The colors are broken up into three quads to give an easy and perfectly coordinated set of colors that will help you achieve any day or night time look — but you can always mix and match the shades however you like, of course! The palette also comes with a full-sized black eyeliner pencil, which was surprisingly super creamy and pigmented, and a dual-ended eye brush that also had good quality.
The twelve eyeshadows consist of six mattes and six shimmers, a perfect balance of finishes with a lovely array of warm and cool tones. I love the Hawaiian theme and color scheme of this palette and think the colors are so beautiful. The shimmer shades felt very creamy and had great pigmentation and color payoff. They swatched nicely and were consistently easy to work with, applying and adhering nicely onto the skin. The matte shades had a smooth texture that was soft and workable, that is, with the exception of one shade, which was Lei. This color gave me the most issues — blending, layering, pigmentation, adhesion — I just couldn’t get this eyeshadow to perform the way that I wanted and I spent a good amount of time trying to make it work! The pigmentation refused to come through and it refused to grip onto my lids, even with a primer, and the more that I layered and blended, the more the color faded. It was very lackluster, which disappointed me because it was one of my favorite colors in the palette. I’m going to give this shade another try and see if it’s any better.
Overall, I still think this is a gorgeous eyeshadow palette, from the vibrant packaging, theme, shade names, and colors — one bad shade shouldn’t ruin it for the rest of the group. These colors are incredibly versatile and very wearable, and they all work well together to allow you to create multiple makeup looks with just one palette.
