I had a sudden urge a few weeks ago to hunt for a denim skirt. My closet was missing one and since I’m having an obsession with denim at the moment, it was just unacceptable not to own one. I haven’t worn a denim skirt in years — since the early 2000’s — and I’m glad that it made a comeback because this blast from the past is versatile, fashionable, and super cute!
Fashion is all about personal preference, but if you’re looking for some inspo on how to style and dress up your denim skirt, then I got you covered! I put together four different looks, centering around this one denim skirt that I’m absolutely in love with! I adore the light wash, high-waisted construction, length, and distressed detailing of this skirt — it fits perfectly and is so flattering!

A white and blue combo can do no wrong. When I got this denim skirt, the first thing that I thought about was, “What white top should I wear with it?” This pairing is clean, chic, and simple. I wore a plain white off-the-shoulder bodysuit with my skirt and opted for sexy nude lace pointy heels, and a pair of gold statement earrings for a feminine and dressy vibe.

A t-shirt with denim is a classic pairing, so for this casual-but-cute look, I wore the denim skirt with a gray “positive vibes” tee that I knotted in the front to give it a flirty touch, completed with black tassel chunky heels, silver drop earrings, and a stack of beaded bracelets. This easy style is comfy, looks put-together, and isn’t over-the-top. You can opt for simple solid color shirts, graphic tees, or striped tops to pair with your skirt — whatever you decide to go for, it’s a guaranteed trendy finish. You’ll maintain your comfort, while looking great at the same time.

I had to whip out my old Cry Baby top with Johnny Depp’s gorgeous face on it for this next look. I have the biggest crush on him and fell even more in love after I saw this movie, therefore, when I found this top at H&M years ago, I snatched it up so fast! This outfit has a grungy vibe to it — the movie reference, the distressed denim skirt, the black strappy heels, and my accessories, which consisted of a black fringe handbag, a velvet choker, big gold hoop earrings, and stacked bracelets, gave this outfit a very 90’s feel.

One of my favorite pairings is a delicate top with distressed denim — it’s the perfect balance of feminine with a hint of edge. In this case, I opted for a delicate pink ruffled top with a lace-up detailing and loose silhouette to pair with the denim skirt, completed with nude pink heels. The pretty details of the top help to soften the destructed look of the skirt, giving the look a sophisticated and chic finish.
I hope you enjoyed this post and found some style inspiration! Which look was your favorite?
