Neon Makeup Pictorial

Neon Makeup

I’ve been seeing the neon trend all over Instagram lately and it really intrigued me, so I sat down in front of my makeup today and gave the look a shot. I can’t remember who was the original artist that came up with this concept, but I searched around Instagram and found @marioncameleon, whose artistry and creativity blows me away! She created this black and pink neon look that inspired today’s creation, which I added a bit of my own flair to. I’m so freaking obsessed with how this look came out — definitely expect more neon looks from me in the future!

This was my first time doing this technique to achieve the vibrant neon effect and it worked out really well. I’m going to show you how I achieved this super simple neon look in six easy steps!

Step 1: Use a flat eyeshadow brush to pat a matte black eyeshadow all over the lid, then use a tapered blending brush to blend the color upward towards the crease. I found that a black base really helps to intensify the neon effect, but of course, you can go with any base color that you like (or a blank eye as well!).

Step 2: Buff the matte black eyeshadow onto the lower lash line with a pencil brush.

Step 3: Take a white liquid eyeliner and sketch out a white pattern on the upper lid — I opted for a wavy line with a winged out outer corner. I also lined my bottom water line with a shimmery white eyeliner pencil to help make my eyes pop.

Step 4: Now, take a thin synthetic angled brush with a liquid lipstick color of your choice (since I’m doing a pink look, I went with a pink liquid lipstick) and trace the liquid lipstick around the white eyeliner. The liquid lipstick will work as a base for the eyeshadow that’s going on top, helping the eyeshadow to adhere better and be more vibrant. Once the lipstick color is in place, pat a hot pink eyeshadow (or any preferred color) on top — continue to layer on the eyeshadow until the payoff is to your liking; the neon effect is now visible.

You can stop here and apply on some false eyelashes to complete the look, but I wanted a more artsy and dramatic result, so I got real extra.

Step 5: Use a blending brush to buff the hot pink eyeshadow heavily onto the inner corner and lower lash line for an intense smokey effect.

Step 6: Create a wing on the upper lash line if desired, then apply on false eyelashes to finish off the eyes.

For my lips, I have on the Klara Cosmetics 04 Neon Pink Kiss Proof Liquid Matte Lipstick all over, then patted the Morphe Layla Liquid Lip (the same liquid lipstick that I used on my eyes) onto the center.

Voilà!
