New Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette & Vice Lipsticks Review, Swatches + Makeup Looks

New Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette & Vice Lipsticks

I swear every time Urban Decay launches an eyeshadow palette (or a collection), I get sucked in right away! Anyone else super obsessed with them?! They’re one of my favorite makeup brands, so it’s extremely difficult for me not to swoon over everything that they put out — I just love the quality of their formulas and ultra pretty packaging.

Today, I’m giving you all the deets on UD’s new Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette and three limited edition Vice Lipsticks. I was incredibly inspired by all of the stunning colors that I created three makeup looks using the eyeshadow palette and paired them with the three new lip colors — check out the review, swatches, and makeup looks below!

The Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 21 x .80 g) was created to be the perfect traveling companion, featuring twenty-one shades with a variety of undertones and finishes, and a full-sized mirror that allows you to create any eye look for any occasion, anywhere.

The travel-inspired theme is very well-represented on the stunning packaging of the palette, which features a photo collage that instantly captivated me and filled me with wanderlust. The size of this palette is quite massive as well — it’s bigger than all of my other UD palettes (except for my Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette). Personally, I really like that this palette didn’t come with a brush, although, I know some would prefer a brush to be included in the palette. I’ve always loved the clean and sleek design — there’s no wasted space, so there’s more room for eyeshadows.

At first glance, these eyeshadows give off major fall vibes with the earthy neutrals, greens, and oranges — they are beautiful, nonetheless. There are five shades in this palette that are existing shades from previous launches (Blaze, Riff, Smog, Punk, and Jet), while the remaining colors are brand new. Although the color assortment is very pretty and I enjoy the nice mix of warm and cool tones, I was lusting for more matte shades. Almost all of the matte colors felt creamy with the exception of Hell Ride, which is the least pigmented among the matte shades and most difficult to work with (it requires a couple of layers to achieve opacity and can look patchy if you work it too much). For the shimmer shades, they’re all very creamy and swatched beautifully, but depending on how you apply some of these colors, they can disintegrate once they are applied onto the eyes and lose their pigmentation. For me, Big Sky and Jet were the most problematic out of the shimmer colors that I’ve worn — they don’t adhere well when layered on top of other eyeshadows and needed to be applied (and layered on a few times) with my fingers to get the desired vibrancy. On a more positive note, the other shades that I wore performed beautifully with no issues; I loved wearing the colors Still Shot, Baja, and Radio. I also used the shimmer shades Stranded and Blaze as face highlighters and they looked so stunning (check out the last makeup look at the end of this post)! Also, I appreciate that these eyeshadows lasted well during the time that I wore them without any creasing or fading. Even though some of these shades made me work a little harder than I wanted, I still think this is a gorgeous and highly versatile palette. The color selection is fantastic and you can create a variety of neutral and bold looks with just this palette. It’s also really nice that the lighter shimmer shades double up as highlighters, so I can reduce baggage weight when traveling.

The three new, limited edition Vice Lipsticks come in three shades: 66, Marfa, and Ready. These lip colors strike me as something that would be in a fall collection since they’re quite dark for a summer launch, but still, they’re very pretty and complement the shades in the eyeshadow palette nicely. All three lipsticks are completely different in terms of finish, but they have one thing in common and that’s their hydrating and ultra comfortable texture. Whether matte or metallic, these lip colors reminded me why I love UD’s lipstick formula so much — they’re never drying or gritty, and are super moisturizing and long wearing.

66 is a matte berry mauve.

I never thought about pairing green smokey eyes with a berry mauve lip color like 66, but ended up absolutely loving this accidentally perfect combo — this look had me feeling some type of way. I adore the contrast between the warm tones on the lid with the pop of green on the lower lash line.

I used these shades from the eyeshadow palette:

  • Riff – Crease / Lower Lash Line
  • Hell Ride – Crease
  • Punk – Inner & Outer Lid
  • Weekender – Center
  • Ignite – Inner & Outer Lid
  • Wanderlust – Lower Lash Line
  • Breakaway – Brow Bone / Tear Duct

Marfa is a matte plum with micro-sparkles.

The Marfa Vice Lipstick was the perfect finishing touch to this smokey and dramatic halo cut-crease makeup look — I love a bold eye and lip combo. On top of the lipstick, I wore Urban Decay’s Candy Flip Hi-Fi Shine Lip Gloss for an extra luscious finish.

I used these shades from the eyeshadow palette:

  • Still Shot – Crease / Transition
  • Baja – Crease / Lower Lash Line
  • Hell Ride – Crease / Inner & Outer Lid / Lower Lash Line
  • Stranded – Center Lid
  • Big Sky – Inner & Outer Lid
  • Jet – Outer Lower Lash Line

On my brow bone and tear duct, I wore UD’s Disco Queen Holographic Highlight Powder.

Ready is a semi-sheer metallic rose.

This last look is probably my favorite out of the three. I’m obsessed with colorful cut-creases and had a lot of fun with the white graphic eyeliner. The rose lip color paired so well with these eye colors.

I used these shades from the eyeshadow palette:

  • Still Shot – Crease / Lower Lash Line
  • Wildheart – Crease / Lower Lash Line
  • Radio – Outer Lid / Crease
  • Big Sky – Outer Lid
  • Ignite – Center Lid
  • Breakaway – Inner Lid / Tear Duct / Brow Bone
  • Guilt Trip – Lower Lash Line
  • Jet – Outer Lower Lash Line

I mixed Stranded and Blaze and used them to highlight my face — loved the glow and versatility!
