I received this jaw-dropping surprise package in the mail from Urban Decay Cosmetics earlier this week that made me weak in the knees (seriously!) — all twenty shades of their new Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Glosses were displayed beautifully in a super cool stereo inspired packaging with a breathtaking array of colors that would make any makeup lover swoon with hearts in their eyes. Once I was able to calm down from all of the excitement, I got straight to photographing, swatching, and testing. From the sleek transparent tube to the glosses’ varying shimmering and luscious effects, they’re beautiful to look at, but are also ultra comfy and enjoyable to wear.
Isn’t this packaging just amazing?!! That pink lip shape is actually a mirror on the other side — ugh, so cute!!!
The Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Glosses ($20.00 each for 7.0 ml) come in a stunning twenty-color shade range with four finishes: cream, sheer, holographic, and metallic. These glosses have a delicious vanilla-mint scent and are infused with vitamin E and peppermint oil to provide a hydrating and cooling finish. I love anything minty, so I really enjoyed the smell and cooling sensation. The perfectly executed formula doesn’t feel sticky, goopy, or thick, and is very lightweight and moisturizing. It’s also supposed to give an immediate plumpness to lips, but since I already have naturally full lips (shout out to my parents for the good genes!), I didn’t see any noticeable difference. In addition, even though majority of these shades look dark in the tube, they apply on quite sheer, so don’t be intimidated by their exterior (except for Savage and Jawbreaker — they’re the two brightest and most pigmented shades). Application was effortless as the flexible silicone applicator deposited the perfect amount of color onto lips and allowed for precision every time (I like to apply two coats, so I dip twice into the tube for maximum coverage and shine). Overall, these glosses are bomb — the smooth texture and hydrating finish are amazing, they last long, and their ultra luscious shine is super addictive. From soft to bold, sheer to sparkly, there is a gloss for every mood and occasion, skin tone and preference. I’m loving everything about this collection!
Majority of the cream colors have great pigmentation — they’re not insanely opaque, but they do give nice coverage and payoff, and are more saturated than all of the other shades in the line (check out Fuel, Jawbreaker, Beso, Backtalk, Savage, and Snitch).
While all of these glosses can be worn alone or paired with other lip products, the sheer shades are especially perfect for layering over lipsticks to enhance your lip color for an extra glossy shine (Midnight Cowgirl and Rapture are so gorgeous!).
The holographic shades don’t have the rainbow shift to truly make them holo — they have more of an intense iridescent, glittery effect (like a metallic finish), hence, why I didn’t refer to any of them as holographic in my shade descriptions below. Even so, it’s hard not to feel like a magical unicorn princess in such unique and beautiful colors like Candy Flip and SPL.
The metallic lip glosses have a hint of color to them with mesmerizing shimmers that are so eye-catching and fun to wear (Gold Mine, Shadowheart, and Big Bang are stunners!).
