Sleek Makeup has always been on my to-try list ever since I was introduced to the UK brand years ago from bloggers that always raved about their affordable and high quality products. Now that the brand has made their way to the US and it’s a lot easier to access their products, I’m super excited to explore their line and see if all the hype is worth it!
I’m going to be sharing my first ever Sleek product with you today — the Under A Spell Eyeshadow Palette ($12.99), which is a fan favorite that’s exclusively sold at Ulta. This palette features a simple black packaging with a full-sized mirror on the inside, and contains twelve matte and shimmer eye colors in a cool-toned color scheme. Right off the bat, I was in love with the array of colors — it’s a nice change from the warm trend and although, the shades in this palette are more on the smokey side, they’re still very beautiful and intriguing.
There are four matte shades and eight shimmer shades in this palette — the matte colors are somewhat lackluster when you swatch them as they appear faint and chalky, whereas, the shimmers are more rich and pigmented. These eyeshadows definitely require layering to achieve a vivid pigmentation and payoff, but I found that wasn’t difficult to do as most of these shades are very workable. In addition, I recommend wearing these colors over a primer to help intensify their coloration.
I wore all four matte eye colors (in the makeup look below) and only one shade in particular (#10) gave me a bit of an issue as it began to lose its pigmentation and started to get patchy on the outer lid as I was blending. I love the matte selection in this palette, however, I wish the colors were creamier and more vibrant. As for the shimmery shades, they swatched and applied beautifully, and adhere nicely to the skin with minimal to no fall-outs. In this case, I definitely favor the shimmers over the mattes.
Overall, this is a good eyeshadow palette for the affordable price and you can achieve a beautiful look if you’re willing to put in a little extra effort to blend and build-up the colors. I also had no issues with the longevity — they lasted nicely through the five hours that I wore them with no creasing or fading, which I appreciate.
