Tarte Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette Review, Swatches & Makeup Look

Tarte Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette

I ordered the Tarte Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette on a whim back in December when Tarte had their 30% friends and family sale. I had no plans of adding this palette to my collection when it debuted all over Instagram with beauty influencers heavily promoting it, but the more that I looked at this palette, the more it intrigued me, so I took advantage of the opportunity and snagged this beauty for only $37.00 (pretty awesome deal!).

The Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette ($53.00 for 1 g x 20) has a beautiful matte black and polished gold packaging with the palette name etched in gold lettering on the front. There’s a huge full-sized mirror on the inside with twenty beautiful eyeshadows strategically placed to reveal a stunning collection of sixteen matte shades in the first four columns and four shimmer shades in the last column.

I was quite surprised at how large this palette was — there is a lot of variety in this palette, but the amount of product is actually quite little (1 g / 0.035 oz. per pan).

While the array of light and dark matte shades in this palette is undoubtedly stunning, the four shimmery additions add a uniqueness to this neutral palette that takes it to a whole other level, in my opinion.

The sixteen matte eyeshadows varied slightly in formulation — the lighter colors (those in the first column) felt extremely creamy and buttery to the touch, whereas, the darker colors (all four hues in the fourth column) felt more dry and not as smooth. I had a tough time swatching some of these matte colors as they had difficulty showing up on my skin when I was doing finger swatches, but once I applied them on my eyes, the pigmentation came through and showed up nicely. I never base quality off of swatches as the true test comes from the colors’ performance — sometimes, colors don’t swatch well, but transform once they’re applied onto the eyes, which is the case with these matte colors. I had no complications with these eyeshadows during application whatsoever — the colors applied on well, gave an even finish, and were highly blend-able and build-able. They do kick up some dust in the pans, but I had no issues with fall-outs when I applied the colors on. Majority of the time, the results will depend on what you use and how you apply the eyeshadows — use a flat eyeshadow brush to pat on colors for an intense payoff and use a blending brush to diffuse for a soft finish.

As for the four shimmer shades, these colors passed with flying colors — the quality was consistent throughout all four colors, from finger swatches to application, they were all incredibly soft and velvety, and super pigmented! These colors are described as “iridescent luster shades with a micro-shimmer, duo-chrome finish” on the Sephora website — yes, all four shades have ultra fine shimmers with a beautiful sheen, but only one shade is a duo-chrome (Trendy). You can wear these beautiful metallic colors on their own or you can layer and mix them with the matte shades for a unique, custom finish.

Overall, these eyeshadows were a pleasure to apply and wear; they’re extremely workable and lasted well throughout hours of wear time with minimal creasing or fading. I really enjoy this palette and think it’s definitely worth getting. These colors are all highly wearable, great for the neutral lover, but there’s also some fun pops of color for a gal who loves to go bold. There’s a great variety of shades in this palette to create any desired makeup look — it’s a very well-rounded and highly versatile palette.
