Being the major lipstick junkie that I am, acquiring a new lipstick is always exciting for me, so when I received a package from Mellow Cosmetics, a New Zealand based cosmetics company, filled with all ten shades of their gorgeous new lip paints, I was blown away.
I’ve been trying these lip products out for the past few weeks and it’s safe to say that I’m completely obsessed!
The Liquid Lip Paints ($14.00 each for 3.2 g) come in ten on-trend shades from a warm brown to a purplish black, and are packaged in a simple, yet beautiful transparent tube with a gold lid and metallic gold inscription of the brand and product name on the front; the bottom of each tube features a corresponding colored label with the name of the specific shade on it. The small doe-foot applicator on the inside is very easy to use — it deposits the product nicely onto the lips and allows for maximum control and precision, which is great.
These liquid lip paints are incredibly weightless and have a slightly thin, mousse-like consistency that applies on nicely to give a pigmented color coverage that’s build-able and non-drying. They don’t have the wet texture like most liquid lipsticks as they’re more dense in comparison and they dry down within a few minutes to a semi-matte finish with a subtle sheen that makes them very comfortable to wear. Majority of these colors glide on smoothly and evenly, and only require two layers for full color coverage — the two darkest shades, however, are a bit more difficult to work with as they apply on a little uneven and require building up to achieve an opaque payoff. As for longevity, these liquid lip paints don’t feather or settle into fine lines, and will give four to five hours of wear with some transfer as they don’t set to a completely matte finish. Overall, if you’re like me and you love the matte look, but hate the drying finish, then this formula is definitely for you — the colors are vibrant, doesn’t flake off, and are pleasant to wear.
